lthough
this month [September 2000] has the usual number of aspects between the planets, it has
an unusually small number of "hard" or difficult aspects. You can usually
tell from the description which aspects are hard. The square, a 90°
separation in the sky between two planets, is a hard aspect closely
associated with Mars. Squares (and Mars) signify tension, conflict,
discontent, challenges, and friction but they are also motivating, dynamic
and demanding. The opposition, two planets at opposite points in the
sky, is a hard aspect associated with Saturn. Oppositions are divisive
and obstructive, representing strains, denial, suppression, limitations
and projections (like Saturn) that are often imposed or instigated by
other people or circumstances to which we must respond.
The "soft" aspects are usually easy. The sextile, a 60 degree separation between two planets, is a soft aspect associated with Venus. A sextile signifies two planets that enhance and compliment each other and it is artistic, talented, appreciative, playful and cooperative. Another soft aspect is the trine, two planets separated in the sky by 120°, and it is Jupiter's aspect. Trines (and Jupiter) represent opportunities, optimism, satisfaction, openness and they are fortunate (but lazy too). With most of the planetary aspects this month in the soft category, it is generally an easy, fun month but the exceptions follow. When the Sun forms a T-square with Jupiter and Pluto August 30 - September 5, it brings plenty of enthusiasm but also pressures or problems, especially control issues. Jupiter opposite Pluto from August through early November signifies the drive for power, success, and control. Obsessive/compulsive behaviors, self-righteousness, and power plays are pronounced (at times). Instead of beating your head against the wall in frustration when Mars squares Saturn September 13 - 23, lower your expectations and don't start anything - wait for a better time. (S)ELECTION 2000: he
candidates have been chosen (George W. Bush and Al Gore). Wonder
who will win? In most past presidential elections (1996, 1992, 1988,
1984, 1980, 1976, etc.), the winner was blatantly obvious to those who
examined the birth charts of the major party candidates and the planetary
influences that affected them at the time of and leading up to those
elections. In this election, there is no clear winner. This means
the vote will be close and one possibility is that the winner of the popular
vote will not be the winner of the electoral vote. Both Gore and
Bush are egotists since they each have Leo rising and three planets in
Leo in the first house. Both are pie-in-the-sky speakers and thinkers
with Neptune in the third house. My distrust of Bush stems from his
Sun and Saturn in the twelfth house - he plays his cards close to the
chest and is a behind-the-scenes operator. Both Bush and Gore are
secretive control freaks: it's their way or the highway. In the
end, I think Gore will squeak by. Also, Ralph Nader could get 5%
of the vote and qualify for major party funding. [After the fact
note written in 2004: We really can't call the 2000 presidential
debacle an election because the outcome was decided by five people in
black robes of the Supreme Court so I refer to it as the "selection
of 2000." If the Supreme Court hadn't appointed Bush
president or if a recount of votes in Florida hadn't been blocked by
the Florida Secretary of State, a Bush crony, Gore would probably have
won the election by winning in Florida with a very small margin.]
